More bad than good, unfortunately...

The Good News: I'm blogging again.

The Bad News: The reason why.

Presenting...

She's here! I'm happy to report that our sweet pea, Violet Eve, made her appearance 7/19 @ 11:07am, coming in at 9lbs even (tho she did spray poo everywhere on her exit, so the nurse said there should be an asterisk after that stat) & 21".

Active labor was no picnic (I think someone turned down my epidural a wee bit too much) and the first night home was a struggle, but all is well now that we have a feeding strategy (read: I've gotten over my fervent anti-formula stance).

I think we made out pretty well in the baby lottery. ;)

More once I manage to string together more than 3 hours of sleep...

32 Weeks Sunday

Is this thing on? Hey! Long time and all that! So what's new with you? Yeah, not a whole lot here. Huh? Oh yeah, school is going well, we survived our first Madison winter (although 5 of our pipes didn't). Haha, yeah, been eating a lot of cheese...

Let's see—anything else to report? Nothing really...

Oh right, how could I forget?

So all that talk of my starting a new blog? Prrrrrrobably won't be happening. We shall see. ETA: If I do, it'll be ovah heah.

Miss you guys. :)

The Dirt Nap

13 days, give or take six years: It was six years ago today that I first got comfortable enough in my temp job to do a little unpaid web surfing and stumbled upon some website—probably the earliest incarnation of kris' PW blog—and thought to myself "Hey—this looks like a fun way to kill some time..."

Boy howdy. The last six years have been very "full" (to use a phrase I've been throwing around a LOT lately—more on that shortly) and I'm so glad to have a record of all of it. But the painful yet all too convenient truth is that I think that this blog has run its course.

I hate for 13DFM to fold in on itself like the previously mentioned whimpering bang, but there is just so. MUCH. going on in and around my life right now that I can't give it the attention it deserves, not to mention the fact that I've completely ditched the whole weblog part of blogging since having quit my telecommuting job a few months ago.

This isn't some half-assed hiatus post, the likes of which you can sometimes set your watch by (depending on the blogger in question), this is the real deal Holyfield. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, it's just all too much right now, with classes and TAing and studying and then there's that guy in my house who keeps complaining that he never gets to see me any more (his name is escaping me at the moment)...

Not to leave you suddenly without even a crumb of what's next, I will say this: add 13DFM to your RSS reader but put me waaaaaaaaaaaay at the bottom. Check it occasionally to see if I've posted something new. If and when you see it, follow the trail. It won't be anything fancy, but it'll be mine. Just different.

I really appreciate and am thankful for all of you readers who have checked in and stuck by me for so long. I'm going to miss you most of all [Scarecrow]. And now to really mix my metaphors:

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Irish Scalpers

Dear ND development office:

I received your letter yesterday—thanks again for writing! You guys sure are good about keeping in touch.

While I'm always glad to hear from my alma mater, I was a little shocked to see that—despite tuition increases that will certainly prohibit me from one day sending our kids to study beneath the golden dome—you have changed the Football Ticket Policy, increasing the minimum annual donation to qualify for the ticket lottery from $100 to $200.

Never mind the Irish curse*, have you guys suddenly developed a bad case of endowment envy? Pardon salty language, but I call bullsh!t and extortion as well as straight up shenanigans.

I know that the "ND family" has always put the fun in dysfunctional, but you and the rest of the administration have morphed into some kind of pointless and repeatedly relapsing younger sibling that can't get its act together and is always looking for a handout.

Since we almost certainly won't be able to afford to send Future Spawn to ND, I feel safe in publicly saying "Screw you guys, I'm going watching the game from home."
